Step 2 : Answer to the question “The National Radio Quiet Zone covers the eastern half of which state?“
West Virginia – The National Radio Quiet Zone is a 13,000-square-mile zone that covers much of the eastern half of West Virginia, as well as some of neighboring Virginia and Maryland, where electronic signals are banned. Overall, the zone covers an area larger than Connecticut and Massachusetts combined. The nation’s oldest federal radio astronomy observatory was built here in the 1950s near the town of Green Bank, West Virginia. Because the telescope requires radio waves to operate, it was built in a remote valley surrounded by mountains which help to block outside noise and light. Operating electrical equipment is banned in order to further ensure the efficacy of the observatory’s six giant telescopes. Using microwaves, cell phones, and WiFi routers within 10 miles of the site can result in a fine of $50 per day.:
